For the pre-writing stages I have used both outlining and
clustering.
From there I have always written a draft that gets edited a few times
before the the final paper.

I have found that for me once a topic has been selected I do some
overview research to narrow the topic as well as pick the main
discussion items. From there I do additional research focusing
specifically on that narrowed scope which feeds into the outline.
From
the outline I write a rough draft that gets edited numerous times into
a final paper.

The majority of my writing has been done with spoken English and not
formal, correct English. Due to that I definitely need some work
on
proper essay and thesis writing skills.
