- Introductions and Conclusions

For Smiley's paper she used the
entire first paragraph to convey her
thesis statement, and thus her persuasive argument. The impact of
her introduction, and thus her argument, is shock; almost as if Smiley
is being satirical. The introduction definitely, and immediately,
draws the reader's attention due to the absurdity of the
proposal. Smiley ends her paper with a very logical, and well
reasoned, conclusion. The impact of that type of conclusion was
very persuasive; furthermore, the conclusion type is very appropriate
for a thesis that could be extremely controversial to a majority of her
readers.
