101 Week 1: Checkpoint - Elevator Speech
"WIU Copyrighted Material Removed at
Their Request"
Distance learning through Western
International University is about taking your class anytime and
anywhere. The majority of the class is handled through
asynchronous communication such as email and newsgroups. There
are numerous threaded discussions in the newsgroups often led by the
professor, and usually focus on discussing the class and posting
work. There are four main newsgroups for each class that is
taken. The first newsgroup is the main classroom which most
resembles a traditional classroom with threaded discussions, questions,
and answers about the coursework. The second newsgroup is the
chat room where personal discussions take place similar to a
traditional school cafeteria, hallway, or lawn. The third
newsgroup is where the professor posts material relevant to the course
such as the syllabus and other documents relating to work we will be
doing. The fourth newsgroup is exclusive to the student and the
professor and is where work is submitted, specific questions can be
asked, and feedback is given.
