My tone with family and friends
is, almost always, a jovial,
light-hearted tone. I use a variety of of emoticons and
punctuation to highlight the feelings and emphasis. For
classmates I take a slightly more formal tone since we don't know each
other that well. I avoid the use of emoticons but will use text
color and formatting to draw attention to, or contrast, certain
points. For the professors I take a much more formal tone and
writing style. I avoid emoticons completely and try to avoid
using any color. Instead I will focus on text formatting such as
italic, bold, and underline as well as using bullet points and lists.
