Week 4: Discussion Question 2
The most
effective type of advertising, especially with television, are the ones
that are humorous. The humor works because it makes the
advertisement very memorable, and something that I will probably
discuss later. An example of the use of humor in an
advertisement, that I found memorable, was Monster's commercial about
no one dreaming of mediocre positions. Another example of
humorous advertising was EDS's commercial on cat herding. Both
use the rhetorical device of humor; which is effective because is
coveys their message, makes it memorable, and hopefully make you want
to you discuss it with others. The Monster advertisement went a
step further and used the the rhetorical device of dysphemism in that
you do not want those examples for your life.
