Week 8: CheckPoint - Job-Search Management

I lost points for this because I did not clearly indicate which week I was in throughout the spreadsheet.  Funny, I don't remember this being a requirement, and it certainly seems like nitpicking, but here it is.

Monday

Review all my key accomplishments and experience.  Prioritize the list to identify the most valuable experience.

Tuesday

Create a boilerplate résumé highlighting the key experience, skills, and education.

Wednesday

Begin the job search on the key job search engines including Monster, HotJobs, and Career Builder.  Have the sites automatically email me matching careers.

Thursday

Begin narrowing down the list of prospective jobs.

Friday

Continue narrowing down the list of prospective jobs and choose the first one to apply for.

Monday

Review the employer’s web site to get an overview of both the company and the specifics of the job.

Tuesday

Choose the key elements from my experience that would be most appealing to employer based on their web site and their job posting.  Modify the boilerplate résumé focusing on these key elements.

Wednesday

Write the cover letter to go with the résumé.  Emphasize how I am an ideal fit for this company by further highlighting my experience and other details that may not be on the résumé.  Submit the résumé and cover letter through the relevant job site.

Thursday

Prepare for the interview by further reviewing my relevant work experience and personality strengths.

Monday

Interview for the position.  Make notes about the company and the people that I meet to use in a follow-up letter.

Tuesday

Review the interview and who I met.  Write a rough draft of a follow-up letter.  This will thank them for the opportunity to interview with them as well as reinforce any applicable skills.

Wednesday

Review the follow-up letter making any necessary corrections and additions.  Email, or mail, this letter off to necessary individuals.
