Week 4: Discussion Question 2
My wife in her early education in west Texas had a professor that
epitomized much of the attitude in that city at that time. He
intentionally graded her down because she was a female. To test
this she had some of the males in the class copy her work
exactly. They got an "A" on their assignment and she got a
"C". The teacher was well aware that she wanted to pursue a
career in the medical field. When she confronted him on the issue
he effectively admitted to the discrepancy and that "she needed to be
put in her place." Later she moved to the Dallas, Texas area
which was a much more fluid-competitive system for females. She
excelled in school, especially in Anatomy and Physiology and HOSA, and
ultimately received a position at Parkland Memorial Hospital as well as
a full tuition scholarship from them. She has sense excelled
working trauma and labor and delivery at Parkland Hospital,
coordinating care at a medical imaging facility, and working as the
nurse for a neurologist. Transitioning to a fluid-competitive
system was critical for her amazing success in the business world.
