Week 3: Discussion Question 2
The efforts of Arizona Proposition 200 are primarily focused on illegal
immigrants' access to public resources. For Federal programs the
states are only legally allowed to coordinate the implementation of the
federal statues, and thus there is minimal change in this area.
Furthermore, the state programs effectively mirrored the federal
programs under the legislation. Fundamentally, the illegal
immigration is a federal level and thus must be handled by them.
Even more so this legislation will do little to change the status quo
both in regards to public benefits and illegal immigration.
Fundamentally, due to the nature of the problem and the limited scope
of the legislation this will have little impact on the national economy
if adopted by all states.
