Professor Review: Dr. William T Shehan & Dr. Katherine B. Downey
This was kind of a bizarre class since there was a teacher swap early
in the class. Dr. Shehan apparently had a family emergency that
he had to take care of and thus Katherine came in.
For the couple of weeks that I had Dr. Shehan he did an excellent job
engaging the class. He typically did not provide much feedback on
the rationale for his grading. Furthermore, he was a very
difficult grader. There was no way I would have got an A in that
class if he had continued to the end. To me it was indiciative of
someone who had just begun teaching and thus took off points for
everything (not that it is unjustified). IMHO: Professors
tend to have higher expectations when they begin than after a few years.
Dr. Downey also did an excellent job engaging the class. She also
tended to be lenient with work submitted late, which was good because I
had an awful time with fatigue! She also had a very gentle and
sweet way, and it was clear that she definitely enjoyed what she was
doing.
